The Terraces 2014
This handcrafted was made to produce the true expression of its site. Cherry and blackberry gave this a very deep colour. French oak notes complement the fruit as a young wine, but then again, complexity and vineyard nuances will prevail as time goes by. This screw cap seal guarantees the quality of each bottle and its cellaring potential.

The Terraces Vineyard was formerly planted in the 1940s and then re-established in 1989.
This sunny, protected site is located on the steep, North West opposite the slope above the old Esk Valley vineyard close to Bay View in the North of Hawkes Bay.
It occupies around one hectare and Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are planted there which are harvested and fermented together. The soils contain layers of seashell and limestone, interspersed with clay and volcanic ash.
This results in low fertility. The vines are hand harvested, spur-pruned, and thinned to one bunch per shoot.
Our grapes reached their physiological ripeness and were picked at the optimum time due to excellent weather conditions from late March till April. Additionally, dry conditions and cool nights throughout harvest produced low yielding crops with great concentration and freshness.
This New Zealand wine is a vineyard blend of Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Franc harvested and fermented together.
The hand harvested grapes were sorted and destemmed and afterwards fermented in a 70-year-old concrete vat.
For cap management we used hand plunging. The finished product was aged in new French oak barriques for a year and a half and prior to bottling we gave it a light egg white fining.
